Medellin Travel Guide

Explore Medellin

Medellín, the capital of Colombia’s Antioquia province, is known as the “City of Eternal Spring” due to its mild climate. The city is famous for its annual Flower Festival and is connected to surrounding neighborhoods by modern metrocables, providing stunning views of the Aburrá Valley. Botero Plaza in the heart of the city features sculptures by renowned Colombian artist Fernando Botero, and the nearby Museo de Antioquia showcases more of his iconic works.

Once known as the “City of Eternal Spring” for its year-round pleasant weather, Medellín was overshadowed by a much darker reputation for decades. Associated with drug cartels, violence, and political unrest, it was a city many once feared to visit. However, the Medellín of today tells a vastly different story—a story of transformation, resilience, and hope. Over the past two decades, Medellín has reinvented itself, becoming a model for urban renewal and social innovation, and is now one of South America’s most vibrant and forward-thinking cities.

Annual Flower Festival

The Medellín Annual Flower Festival (Feria de las Flores) is one of Colombia’s most iconic cultural events, held every year in Medellín. It celebrates the city’s deep-rooted flower-growing tradition, symbolizing the spirit, beauty, and resilience of its people. The festival typically takes place in late July or early August and lasts for about 10 days, drawing both locals and tourists from around the world.
